A live staged puppetry news edition
For almost half a year the crafts of journalism and contemporary puppetry have been welded together into what has become an experimental, mind-boggling and often controversial new form of theatre. Taking place in Finnkino cinema hall in Turku, News 2.0 demonstrated how theatre can not only investigate, edit and perform real news, but also question the very structure and motives of news making.
News 2.0 consisted of 3 shows whereas each show differed from the others not only in the actual news reported, but also in a different theme with its reportage and a guest expert. The shows and themes were: 24.10.2018 Power of News | 31.12.2018 Arms Trade | 7.11.2018 Artificial Intelligence.
From the review:
“(News 2.0) processes news in an original and innovative manner… using the diverse possibilities of puppetry… the makers challenge in many ways the objectivity, neutrality and criteria of the news… we need performances like News 2.0 that will shake, criticize and question the media in a profound and constructive way.” -Irmeli Haapanen, Turun Sanomat 26.10.2018
